BEST SOURCES FOR CLAT PREPARATION
This blog is a quick summary of all the relevant sources
that might be helpful for CLAT preparation. Also, I have mentioned how can you avail of the sources.
Before you begin with the sources make sure that you surf through the CLAT 2021 and CLAT 2022 question paper so that you can easily understand what the paper expects you to do.
1. ENGLISH LANGUAGE- The key goal of reading passages is to
understand and interpret the passage to easily solve the following questions
that are directly related to the text. Hence, one must develop a good reading
habit that helps to read quickly and efficiently. The most basic source would
be the editorial section of a newspaper that helps you to understand the
current topics (The passages in the final exam are mostly asked from passages that are picked from newspapers). Further,
one can read novels in the genre that interests the person. Books from your
coaching institution would help you to solve passages and understand the
various kind of questions that the consortium can ask. Once you have a good
hold over solving questions in some passages, one can jump to sectional tests
and finally the mocks.
(The best source for vocabulary preparation is Word Power Made Easy- can easily find it on Amazon).
2. CURRENT AFFAIRS INCLUDING GENERAL KNOWLEDGE- This is one of those sections that require the maximum time devotion but once you know the correct sources you can easily follow the pattern. The most important source that comes up is the newspaper. But the advantage of its accessibility can be negated by the quantity and volume of news hence one should choose what to read very carefully. Since Consortium asks questions in detail one can also look at UPSC preparation sources like Drishti IAS. Apart from that, CLAT institutions release monthly or weekly compendiums that all also quite helpful. Topics asked in mocks can also be used to further delve into greater research.
3. LEGAL REASONING- Although the Consortium website says that no prior knowledge is required I personally feel that's a bit of an exaggeration. If you already know the basics it becomes very easy to navigate through the passage and easily solve lengthy questions. The best available source that I would recommend is iPleaders. This website has essays written for almost all the topics and which are freely available on Google. To keep yourself abreast of the legal news and updates you can use LiveLaw and Bar and Bench (prefer the former as it is more easily worded and you can read more articles without a subscription :)
4. LOGICAL REASONING (must be read as critical
reasoning)- For many students, this seems to be one of the toughest sections. For most of the CLAT
aspirants, even after attempting all of the passages they do not get the questions right. First, focus on the concepts and then apply them to the passages. The first could be done through Mam Smriti Rastogi's videos (she is a Law Prep Tutorial teacher and her videos are freely available on Youtube) and for passages following mocks and books given by CLAT institutions.
QUANTITATIVE TECHNIQUES - Last but not the least, this 15 questions section could be a good way to boost your score. The major sources can include RS Agarwal books and mocks.
The list is not exhaustive but nevertheless might be good to
start for a beginner. For ease of navigation, the division is based on
sections. Also, I have tried to include sources that are easily accessible and
available for free on Google.
