HOW TO ANALYSE A CLAT MOCK TEST PROPERLY?
One cannot overemphasize the importance of this part in your CLAT preparation. In most cases, students continue to attempt the questions and mock but their marks remain static because they just do not know where they are going wrong. For example, in my case, I scored 70 (approx.) for more than two months because I just didn't know that I was doing something wrong. This was that I was not analysing my mistakes and after every mock repeating those same mistakes which led me to score almost the same marks in every mock.
So, here I present my tips on how to analyse a mock properly:
a) First, as soon as a mock is complete, sit down and write all the points that came up in your mind while solving a mock. For example, it could be that the Legal section was tough or the English section was very easy or you got stuck in some particular type of questions in all the passages. This will include anything that comes to your mind immediately. This will be helpful because there are some things that to your mind while solving the mock and to make sure that you focus on that part particularly, you need to write that before you forget.
b) After taking the break and finally when the mock hangover is over:) keep a notebook and start analysing each section one by one. You can go through your correct answers but you will have to definitely watch out for the wrong answers. What made you think that a certain answer would be correct. And now compare it with the correct option. Look at what you missed while reading. As you do this for each section you will see the repetitive mistakes and how you will prevent them in the future. Do this for each section.
SPECIAL REFERENCE FOR CURRENT AFFAIRS AND LEGAL REASONING- For GK, it could either be that you do not know the passage at all or that you attempt some questions from all five. In the former part, you need to look at the particular topic and track down which month is that GK from. Go to the relevant sites (check out the sources for GK here) and make notes in your GK notebook. For the latter, first you need not know all the questions and hence getting 4 out of 5 questions right is a decent score. However, in case you do not know, let's say 3/4 questions even when you have read the topic then you will need a revision for that topic again.
For legal reasoning, if you do know the topic, use IPleaders to search immediately. Make addition to your notes and then try solving the same passage.
c) Once the total analysis is done, make use of a spreadsheet where you have to write total attempted, correct, incorrect, and marks for every section. This might not be helpful immediately but will come in handy after three or more mocks to know your improvement scale. This is important because the human mind can easily filter our numbers when written in a chart or in a presentable manner than when you have numbers spread across all the place.
d) Finally when strategizing and practicing the questions make sure that you keep the first point (a) in your mind.
To be honest, this process might take you more than three hours and is extremely tiring. However more important is that as you learn from your mistakes you will be able to see a significant boost in your marks over time.
